Snow is expected to start around 6 p.m. on Friday in the north central region after hitting southern West Virginia earlier in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowfall will continue overnight and into Saturday afternoon or even evening in the mountains. The NWS said Friday to avoid travel on Saturday if you can. All of north central West Virginia is under a Winter Weather Advisory; it will expire in lowland counties at 4 p.m. Saturday and at 1 a.m. Sunday in the higher elevations.
West Virginia has already gotten up to two feet of snow in some areas over the last week, and school districts across the state were closed or had remote learning all week.
For next week, cold temperatures are expected to stick around, so the snow on the ground will likely stick around for a while.
