MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Marshall County commissioners approved a bid for the concrete project at 12th Street Garage and money for an infrastructure project in Benwood during their meeting Tuesday morning.
The bid for the 12th Street Garage Project was awarded to Jerry Gust Masonry & Concrete for $53,300.
Commissioners unanimously approved $512,000 for Benwood’s sewer separation project they started nearly three years ago.
Marshall County Administrator Betsy Frohnapfel says the city had an “overrun in their project in the amount of $1.3 million.” West Virginia Water Development is funding $800,000 of that overrun, but the city needed the remaining $512,000 to see the project to the end.
Commissioner President Mike Ferro says this project will have a positive impact on the citizens.
“It just goes to show how much we’ve helped other cities with regard to some of their requests when they’ve asked. We don’t meddle in city business; we don’t meddle in the municipalities business. But we’ve helped Cameron out with their water project, we’ve helped McMechen out now. And now we’re going to help Benwood out. When my dad got killed in 1955, my mom and I moved to Benwood. I have a really strong affection for the citizens of Benwood. The citizens of Benwood deserve this. That’s the only reason I’m going to vote for this.”
MIKE FERRO | PRESIDENT, MARSHALL COUNTY COMMISSION
Benwood has already secured over $4,550,000 million in federal grants and loans for the project.
Without support from the commission, they were at risk of losing this secured funding.
The next commission meeting is Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.
